Beautemps-Beaupré
In February 2003, Chantiers de l’Atlantique delivered Beautemps-Beaupré to the Direction Générale de l’Armement (General Direction of Armament), a Hydrographic and Oceanographic Survey Vessel. This multipurpose ship, manned by the French Navy, is operated by the Hydrography and Oceanography department of La Marine Nationale. Equipped with technologically advanced scientific and handling equipment, this unit is considered a world-wide reference in its field of activity.
Named after the famous French hydrography engineer, Beautemps-Beaupré is a versatile vessel used in hydrography and oceanography works of military interests. It meets the needs of maritime forces, and carries out hydrography missions of general interest as part of the public service mission entrusted to the French Navy. Its action was completed by the arrival in Ifremer’s fleet in 2005 of the vessel “Pourquoi pas?” also built by the shipyard in Saint-Nazaire.
