Atlantique Offshore Energy, Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s Buisiness Unit dedicated to Renewable Marine Energy and leader of a consortium of companies consisting of GE Grid Solution and SDI (a subsidiary of DEME Group), received an order from EDF Renouvlables, Enbridge and WPD Offshore for the design, construction and installation of an electrical substation in the Calvados offshore wind farm, which will be located in Courseulles-sur-Mer.

This wind farm project counts 64 wind turbines for a cumulated power of nearly 450 MWThe considered solution will allow to produce enough energy to provide for more than 630,000 people, that is to say 90 % of the region inhabitants, by 2024.

The electrical substation will collect and transform the electricity produced by the wind turbines, transfer it inland and will also serve to remotely pilot the wind farm. It ought to be installed in 2023.

The consortium gathers the expertize of Atlantique Offshore Energy – in charge of the designing, manufacturing and commissioning of the topside and the Jacket structure – of GE Grid Solution – in charge of the designing, manufacturing and commissioning of the high-voltage electrical equipment as well as the safety and the control and command equipment – and of SDI – in charge of the transportation and installation of the structures. Before that, the consortium won the call for bidders regarding the substation for the Saint-Nazaire and Fécamp offshore wind farm. The substation for the Calvados offshore wind farm is mostly identical to the previous ones. The experience gained on the two previous substations will thus allow to further optimize the maintenance and exploitation capabilities of the client’s upcoming wind farms.

This contract brings to four the number of electrical substations on Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s book of orders.
