Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard delivered the hysdrographic and oceanographic vessel Beautemps-Beaupré to Direction Générale de l’Armement in February 2003. This multipurpose ship belonging to the French navy is operated by its Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM). Outfitted with scientific equipment and comprehensive handling systems, this unit is considered as the worldwide reference in the fields of hydrography and oceanography. 

Taking on her name from the the famous hydrography specialist, Beautemps-Beaupré is a multipurpose ship carrying out hydrographic work for military purpose and oceanographic activity, as well as for civil needs.

In 2005, her action was completed by the delivery to Ifremer of Pourquoi pas? built also by Chantiers de l’Altantique.
