Barely two years after Harmony of the Seas delivery, STX France reiterates its remarkable achievement with her sister ship, the world’s largest cruise ship. The flag ceremony took place in attendance of more than 1,000 crew members, RCCL officials, and political figures including Jean-Marc Ayrault, former French prime minister.
With 362 meters long, 66 meters wide, 70 meters high and 2,750 passenger cabins Symphony of the seas is able to host around 6,800 passengers and 2,000 staff members. This ship of astonishing size will soon be followed by a third of her kind, due for delivery in 2021.
Along the 30 years of collaboration with RCCL, STX France delivered 13 (tbc) ships and 5 more are already to come. This long lasting relationship is mainly due to STX’s talent for innovation and ability to anticipate its customers’ expectations and to turn them into audacious technical solutions enabling RCCL to offer innovative experience to its clientele.
In addition, with the aim to further develop the ship energetic performance, and reduce their environmental impact, STX France could set hydrodynamic evolutions up, as well as an ingenuous heat recovery system both contributing to reduce by a quarter the ship energetic balance.
Finally, this ship is the 1st one to be granted with the « SILENT-E » class from DNV-GL for her outstanding low level of noise under the water, making her more respectful of the marine wildlife and especially marine mammals.
“Today, is a day of pride for me and all STX France and sub-contractor’s teams, as we are handing over Symphony of the Seas to her owner less than two years after Harmony of the Seas. She is now the largest cruise ship ever and she’s leaving Saint-Nazaire’s yard after reaching outstanding finishing levels. She has taken advantage of the experience gained and of our progress-driven spirit which is one of our main characteristics. We commit ourselves to set innovation at the heart of our processes and to support RCCL who is always challenging us that way. I cite as evidence the ship energetic balance which has been amazingly improved by 25%.” stated Laurent Castaing, STX France chief executive.
